St Andrews Beach – West Sands

While almost every visitor to St Andrews has to visit the golf course at least once, there are quite a few that will be looking for other things to do. Small fry and Mum will almost certainly look for something to do while Dad is at the Golf club. Inevitably someone will ask, where is St Andrews beach? For those that have located the golf course, finding the beach will not present a problem. The beach is right next to the golf course. many a soul has whiled away the hours at St Andrews beach, while their family members are playing golf.

Renowned for its white sands and cleanliness, this beach has become world famous. The beach is approximately a fifteen minute walk from the centre of St Andrews. This attraction is famous in its own right and doesn’t owe its draw card only to to the golf course. Movie Buffs will have spotted the beach in the opening scenes of “Chariots of fire”. A two mile long stretch of open clean beach is what makes this beach a returning destination for most that visit it. Well placed for ample car parking, and close enough to town to walk, it is accessible by all.

A selection of shops and restaurants nearby mean that even in wet weather there is a place to take shelter and enjoy this natural resource. The sand dunes and soft lapping waves make the beach a wonderland to play for both young and old. Close by you will unsurprisingly find the Golf Museum, as well as the Castle and the Cathedral nearby. This part of St Andrews is photographers paradise. Sunbathers will love this beach, but for those that cant keep still, there is plenty of space zoned off for sand yachting.
